An Apple a day

Apples are unique.  They differ from other foods because they're one of the best sources of pectin, a type of fiber.  Research indicates that pectin limits the cholesterol the body absorbs and may be an important link to preventing heart disease.
Besides being high in pectin, apples are a source of vitamins A, B1, B2, C and niacin as well as minerals phosphorous, iron, magnesium, iodine, and potassium.  Apples are low in sodium.  That means that apples help prevent infections, aid growth,  are important for eyesight, and help digestion. But most of all, they are DELICIOUS!!
APPLE TIPS
  • Store small quantities in your refrigerator, in plastic bags in the crisper--between 34 and 40 degrees. Don’t allow them to freeze. apples can absorb odors from other foods, keeping apples in plastic bags prevents this and helps apples retain their own moisture.
  • Apples ripen six to ten times faster at room temperature than if they were refrigerated. One or two days sitting on a counter top and the fresh crunch of your apple is lost forever.
  • Lemon juice helps prevent apple discoloration. Sprinkle a little lemon juice on sliced apples before adding to salads.

Check out our great selection of apple varieties

McIntosh
If you had to create a classic "apple" flavor in the lab, it would be modeled on the Mac: juicy, fresh, sweet, and bright—everything an apple should be.
Fireside
Large, red striped fruit with a sweet, pleasant flavor. Excellent flavor good for eating. Good storage life.  It is big, sweet, firm, long-keeping, chunky to chew,   complex-ly flavorful,  Fireside’s flame-orange striping over a rich yellow undercolor.
Honeycrisp
The name says it all for this in-demand variety: crisp, juicy flesh with a sweetness that rivals honey. The firm flesh stands up well in a pie or other dessert, but the unbeatable flavor begs to be used in any way from cider to salads to straight eating.
Cortland
Often described as "sprightly" because of its balance of sweetness and acidity, Cortland browns more slowly after cutting than most other apples, which makes it great for fruit salads.
Wealthy
Wealthy is a very juicy apple, with a tart and sweet strawberry-like flavor. This is a multi-purpose apple, but it is especially good for cooking, such as pies, sauces and juices. Wealthy often bears fruit the first year and keeps well. Its fruit tends to drop at maturity.
Dudley
Dudley Large, greenish-yellow fruit with red overlay. Flesh is firm, tender, very juicy, and briskly sub-acid. Excellent for sauce and baking

Red Corts
In flavor and texture and firmness Redcort is proving to be a highly desirable apple.
